Pictures of our locations

These pictures have been taken for where we will be filming our trailer and they were taken the day before we started filming. These pictures are taken on our school field. We also checked the weather before we began to film just incase we had to postpone due to rain.

Weather for day of recording

This shows the weather forecast for the tomorrow where me and John will start filming. It shows that it will begin to rain at 5pm till 10pm. Were only filming one scene outside so it shouldn't affect me and John that much. If it starts to rain too much we would have to reschedule for later on this week.

Unborn Script

Nathanael and Twyla are standing outside the house, they knock on the door. Rachael answers the door with Shikiel standing behind her. They invite the couple in and the door closes.

‘The group walk into the living room and take a seat’

Nathanael: Congratulations, whens the baby due?

Rachael: In the next two weeks.

Twyla: we brought you a present for the baby.

The camera zooms in on the dolls face.

Rachael: Awww, thanks. Will put it in the babys room.

Rachael and Shikiel walk upstairs and place the dolls in the baby crib.

The camera pans from a shot of Rachael walking out the room to shot of the dolls face. The camera slowly zooms in on the eyes doll.

The next day Rachael is in the kitchen washing up, she notices the knifes are missing from the cabinet. The camera follows Rachael into the living from where she notices objects has gone missing.

Rachael : Have you seen the knifes.

Shikiel : No, but the televisions gone missing.

Rachael : Something strange is going on.

Shikiel: Maybe it’s that doll Twyla and Nathanael gave us.

Rachael : What so the dolls possessed?. That’s impossible.  That doesn’t explain where the knifes have too.

Shikiel phones Twyla but she doesn’t pick up.

One night, shikiel starts to hear banging noises.

Shikiel: Rachael did you hear that?

Rachael is fast asleep and doesn’t hear Shikiel.

The banging noises start again but it becomes louder. Racheal also wakes up. Shikiel gets out and walks out his bedroom. He then realises the noises are coming from the back garden.

Shikiel: Im gonna check it out

Rachael : no, lets just wait until the morning.

A loud scream echoes from the garden.

Shikiel : I’ve gotta check it might be a burglary.

Shikiel begins to slowly walk down the stairs, the floor begins to creek. The camera zooms in on shikiels feet walking to the garden.

A beam of light enters into the kitchen from the garden. Shikiel notices the door lock is broken and walks into the garden.

Shikiel : Hello, whose their?

The noises get louder and the bushes begin to rumble.  The camera then changes into a POV shot of the doll looking at Shikiel from the bushes.

Shikiel : whoever you are come out now!
Everything goes quiet with shikiel standing in fear.  Racheal is awoken with a loud scream coming from the garden. Frantically she begins to run down the stairs into the kitchen. The screen is shaky and distorted.

A aerial shoot of Rachel running into the garden is captured from the bedroom window.

Racheal : Shikiel (Racheal screams!)

A close shot of Shikiel’s face with blood on his neck is captured. The camera then zooms in on the blood. Rachael neils on the ground holding shikiels head.

She rushes inside to phone 999, but notices a message on the wall. Whose Next? Is written in blood all over the wall.

Rachael drops the phone and trys to run out the front door but notices its lock. The noises from outside echo throughout the house. The lights begin to flicker rapidly and children’s laughter can be heard from the baby’s  room.

Rachael slowly opens the door to the baby’s room… The doll jumps onto the Rachael and the scene cuts to a black screen

Key Scenes

In this first scene, the characters are all living together in the same house. They are dressed like normal young adults.

This will be a medium shot of shikiel, Rachael and Nathanael in the living room of Twyla's house. We could have a close up shot of the dolls face when Nathanael gives the doll to Shikiel, After this shot we could have a extreme close up of the dolls eyes. This shot could represent the doll as being paranormal and hint that the dolls alive. This scene will use high key lighting because its being shot in the morning, however the next scene will be shot in the night which could show a contrast between day and night, furthermore it could show a passing of time. The characters in the scene will be dressed in casual clothes and the room will be decorated with banners and balloons to show that the couple have just had a baby. This scene could end in a wide shot of the room showing all the items in the living room, this shot could fade into black, to indicate that the days over.

After this scene, a lot of things start to happen in the house and doors have been left open. Items start to go missing, so this means there must be a ghost their amongst them.

This will be a wide shot of the living room with a before and after shot to show that some items have gone missing. This scene will be shot in the morning to indicate that the items were taken the night before. We could have more wide shots of different rooms too.

Shikiel hears banging noises that wakes him up. He checks his phone and realises its 3AM. He then gets up and walks out of his bedroom. the noises are coming from the garden and the back door has been left wide open.

This will be a medium shot of Shikiels face sleeping in a pitch black room.  We could have a close up shot of Shikiel's face when he hears banging noises and another close up of the moon in the sky. This scene will be shoot in Twylas bedroom The room goes from being pitch black to being dimly light after Shikiel turns the lamp on. After this scene we could have a close up of Shikiel's feet walking to the door and another close up of his hand on the door nob. we could also include sound effects of the knob twisting and the floor board creaking, this could build up the intensity of the scene and suggest a paranormal presence in the room. We could shoot this scene in slow motion to build up tension and leave the audience wondering whats going to happen next. We could also have a POV shot of Shikiel walking down the stairs with his hand on the railing.

Shikiel is lying on the ground with a big bite into his neck and blood all over the grass The other three characters are stood there with shock on their faces.

This will be a close up shot of Shikiels face and a extreme close up of the bite on his neck. The scene will be shoot in the back-garden of Twylas house and will use low key lighting since were filming it in the middle of the night. we could have additional lighting from the touches the characters are holding.we could also use fake blood to capture the blood and gore that horror films always use. we could also place a weapon in the scene like a kitchen knife or a baseball bat covered with blood, this would suggest that he has been brutally murdered and the killer has left clues behind. This scene will be shoot in the middle of night with the other characters wearing pyjamas. we could then have a close up shot of the three characters faces in shock, the music will switch from being slow and eerie to fast and dramatic. We could also include jump cuts switching from a shot of Shikiel's face on the ground to shots of Rachael in shock.

It will also create an effect my audience, because it will make my trailer more interesting. When I use this soundtrack I will make sure I use it correctly. This means I will make the soundtrack louder when there is no narrator speaking. By using this soundtrack, it will have a big impact on my trailer.

'The Ultimate How To Guide To Making Trailers'

Creating a film trailer seems to be one of the most popular production. A trailer will be a short 2 minute film which tells the story of the film. However, when creating the trailer you have to put a lot of thought into it because you have to do a lot of research and planning.

The purpose of trailers is to make the audience know about upcoming films. When a new trailer comes out, posters and other things help market the product so that it delivers to audiences.

The target audience;

Whilst making a trailer, the distributor needs to think about who the target audience for the film will be. Whilst choosing a target audience they need to think about

- where the trailer is going to be advertised
- how will they promote the trailer

When planning a trailer, the distributor has to be aware of two things, which is the unique selling point of a film. This is to decide what makes the film different from others in its genre. It should also be aware of the audience for the film.

A film distributor has to decide how they will present a film to a potential audience. They need to decide what sets this film parts from different films. For example if the distributors is looking to film a horror film, they need to look for things that are different to other horror films. Whilst figuring this out, they will look at the different people who will star in the film.

In a trailer, theres a mixture of moving images, graphics and voice overs to make the audience feel as if they are in the trailer. It can make the audience know what the genre is and what the story is about. In a trailer there are usually extracts from the final product. This makes it more exciting for the audience.

In a trailer, you can also include music that will sort the trailer. The trailer also needs to include the right camera shots so that it is effective for the audience and so it doesn't make the trailer boring. Ensure that there is a variety of shots used in the trailer. But don't make the trailer too long. It can also give out too much information about the film.

The film has to think about the age, gender, lifestyles and activities of an audience. Target audience can change, depending on the type of genre of a film. It can range from young children, to teenagers to older adults. Its the distributors job to do a lot of research and planning so they know how to target the right audience. Each film has to be treated as an individual product.

Creating your trailer; The story

The starting point should be knowing the complete story of your film. Most trailers would use the scenes and editing shots from the actual film. They would also use dialogue which would help create the narrative image. The trailer will help introduce the main characters within the film. You would also need make sure the genre is easy for the audience to recognise. However, some people may find it hard to produce a trailer without giving away the whole plot of the film. The most common errors in a trailer are;

Examples of horror trailer shots

  1. Trailer is too long
  2. Trailer is far to long
  3. Not a variety of shots
  4. Sound quality of dialogue is poor
  5. No use of music
  6. No use of captions / inter titles
  7. Shots included are too long

Example of a bad trailer

This is a bad example of a horror trailer because the trailer doesn't make sense. Even though scenes from the actual film are used in the trailer, there's not a clear story line of what is going to happen in the film. The text that is used in the trailer doesn't have an effect on anything and it doesn't relate back to the genre of horror. The sound that is used in the trailer isn't scary so the target audience wouldn't find this exciting. The one thing that is good about the trailer is that the sound builds up to create tension for the audience.

Feedback on my pitch

After filming my pitch I asked my audience;

Do you like this idea for a film trailer?

Yes I like this idea because it sounds very unique and different. I think this is the right idea to use for your specific target audience because they would find your idea very interesting and they would be engaged in it. I feel like the target audience would be able to get more involved with this idea as it is something they would enjoy.

What would you change about my idea?

I really like how jumpy and dramatic it sounds. I also think it sounds very professional. However, it had lack of locations. Some of my target audience found that I need to use different locations to make it even more dramatic and serious for them. If I make these changes, it would make my film idea even better

Summary Plot

Four friends live in a house together, however Rachael and Shikiel are expecting there first baby together.
  • In this first scene, the characters are all living together in the same house. They are dressed like normal young adults.
As a thoughtful gift, Twyla and Nathanael decide to buy a gift on the baby they are expecting. They go to the store and buy a pretty doll and leave it in the baby's room back at home.
  • After this scene, a lot of things start to happen in the house. Items start to go missing, so this means there must be a ghost their amongst them.
One night, Shikiel starts to hear banging noises. He wakes up from his sleep but he thinks its a dream. He then goes back to sleep. However the banging noises starts again but it becomes louder. Rachael also wakes up. Shikiel gets out and walks out of his bedroom. He then realises the noise is coming from the baby room.
  • In this scene, all the characters are dressed in pj's and they all look rough and tired because it is 3am in the morning. Scary sound effects will be used here to create emphasis for my audience.
As Shikiel walks into the baby room, he notices the doll's head turn around and it starts doing an evil laugh. The doll then leaps off the floor and grabs shekel by the neck. Shikiel then begins to scream and everyone else in the house runs out there rooms. They all walk towards the baby room. As they approach it, the see blood writing on the floor which says 'Who's next?'
  • After this scene, Shikiel is lying on the floor with a big bite into his neck and blood all over the floor. The other three characters are stood there with shock on their faces.

Expectations of a movie trailer

I went in to Sutton Town Centre and did a 30 people survey asking what makes a good trailer. The sort of questions that were asked were 'How long should a trailer be?', 'What should be included in a trailer?' 'Should a lot about the movie be in the trailer?' Overall, I received a variety of feedback, but most people said that they prefer movie trailer to be shorter that 2 minutes because they find that most movie trailers give out way to much information than they should.

Target audience

Identify who your potential target audience for your production will be: The demographic for my target audience will be teenagers and young adults aged 16 - 25. They will be aimed at females and males with a black ethnic group. The lifestyle of my target audience will be young people in there last years of education or people who have just found a job. Or people who are in education and they have a part time job. The psychographics of my target audience will be young people who enjoy going out and looking up to celebrities as role models. The psychographics will explain more about my target audience's personalities and interests

Target Audience

The genre of our film will be a thriller, horror. Our primary audience is young adults aged 16 - 25, this is because it is more of a mature age. Our trailer will be aimed at females and males because I feel that it will interest both genders. By choosing this age group for my target audience, it makes it easier for to make my trailer because I am in this age group, so I know what will make it interesting for my audience.
I researched into what sort of thriller, horror movies they would enjoy.

If i relate my target audience to the JICNAR scale they the age group between 16-19 would come towards the bottom of my JICNAR scale. However the age range between 19-25 could be higher up the scale because they would be looking to go into a job at this age and they could start earning at a low salary.

Review of my film trailer

The name of my film is called. I created this trailer for my film. The genre of my film is gangster horror, which includes two guys. Whilst producing this trailer I learnt how to use the camera to show different camera shots such as, high angle, over the shoulder shot, close up shot, and wide shot. On one of the shots we could've improved on pull focused to create emphasis for the audience. In my group there was me, john and Rachael. As a team we worked really well together. Next time i would work on how to use more of a variety of shots. We had feedback from our target audience, and they said the trailer looked very professional with the use of both great graphics and high quality camera shots. The angles that were used sometimes looked of centre and didn't always flow from shot to shot. To improve we could've used more moving shots and not use standing still shots all the time. I think I worked well on giving Nathanael and John direction and I showed I had a clear vision. John acted very well in this trailer, and he put a lot of effort into the work. Everyone though the location was a good place to film and it gave the trailer a good atmosphere.

Ideas for my film

Idea one

Genre: Horror

A group of boys go out one night in town for clubbing. The night is alright for the group of boys, until one boy went outside to have a fag. Whilst he's having a fag he sees a girl and boy arguing. He goes over to the girl to check if she's okay. The boy starts to get because he thinks he is trying to flirt with his girl. The boy pushes the other boy down the floor and then they begin to fight. A crowd of people came running over to watch the fight. The other group of boys ran over to help there friend, then one boys brings out a gun. Everyone started screaming and the boy puts a gun to the other boys face.

Location - Birmingham Town Centre

Target audience - My target audience is for young teenagers - young adults that love to go out partying. This would be a good target audience for this type of film because older people wouldn't find it interesting and they might find it childish.

Idea two

Genre:  Horror

Location - Aston - A house

John and Rachael live in Aston, and they are expecting there first child. John buys a lot of toys for there child, including this special doll. Rachael loves the doll and puts it up for when the child in born. At night, they hear a loud banging noise on the wall. John then wakes up and thought it was a dream and goes back to sleep. The banging noise starts again, however this time John and Rachael wake up. John gets up and walks out the room. He realises that the noise is coming from the baby room. As he walks into the bedroom, the doll that he bought turns its head around slowly, and leaps up in the air to grab John round the neck. John begins to scream and Rachael jumps out of bed to see what is happening. As she walks towards the room she sees blood writing on the floor saying 'Your next'

Target audience - My target audience is for young adults, because it is more mature for them to watch. The young adults would find it interesting and this film would be too scary for teenagers.

Idea three

An investigation is going on for a death that has just happened in a local school. A group of friends is determined to figure out what has happened. While they are on the quest of trying to find out who the mystery killer is, they come across a lot of problems and curses. Another murder happens. They then figure out that the school is cursed. Whilst they are are walking around the school all the lights in the school turn off automatically. They then hear loads of screaming coming from different directions. The lights then come back on and there two more people have died. That means there is one person left alive. She is then left by herself to find the mystery killer.

Location - A school

Target audience - My target audience is for young adults because it is more mature for them. Also the characters that will be used would be the same age as my target audience.

Analysis of The Gift

This is the trailer for the new film called The Gift. The genre of this film is phycological horror. The first shot that is used in this trailer is a close up shot and it is of the red bow. This red bow is linked to the title of this film. The close up shot of the red bow is showed a couple of times throughout the trailer. An over the shoulder shot is used in the trailer when Gordo meets Robyn. Diegetic sound is the used later on in the trailer to set the mood of the film.  The bow is also a motif to the film, and it is for the audience to recognise. The non-diegetic sound is dark music which shows that something bad will happen in the film. The text that is used within the trailer is bold and big for the target audience. I think this trailer is good, however, it does drag on and some people might get confused by this trailer. There are a lot of cuts throughout this trailer which then shows a black screen. This however get the audience more engaged into the trailer.

This is the trailer for the film Amityville: The awakening. The genre of this film is a supernatural horror drama film. This trailer has a lot of effects in. The trailer also shows how the film is set in a dark, isolated place. Different shots are used, such as close up shots and two shots to show the emphasis on people within the trailer. The shots that are used are to show the different locations of the different scenes that are used within the film. The text that is used in the trailer is in a serif font. The text is also bold and clear so that the audience can see it clearly. It is also used on a background that shows the genre of horror more. There are a lot of cuts throughout this trailer which then shows a black screen. This however get the audience more engaged into the trailer.  A cut is also used which includes a dissolve. This also has a big effect on the trailer and it sets the mood for the trailer.
